Composer's Note:
This duo for cello and piano is derived from thematic material being developed for a chamber opera (Liaison - with Roses), the libretto of which juxtaposes an early 20th-century singer of romances with the great painter, adventurer, and mystic Nicholas Roerich. Music reminiscent of the Russian "romance" surfaces from and submerges into a more abstract texture.
