Composer's Note:
An Ended Day was composed after I asked my first semester composition students to set the same Whitman poem as a single line melody. It was then that I realized the poem make a beautiful choral piece for events such as convocations and commencements. I was mainly concerned with meditating on some of the key words of the poem "soothing," "triumph," "jubilate" then constructing the rest of the piece around these extended moments.
