Composer's Note:

The piece takes its title from Ægir, the Norse god of the sea, a powerful divinity traditionally associated with the untamed ocean waves, brewing, and hospitality. Rather than a literal, programmatic depiction of mythological scenes, Dangerfield's composition channels the elemental qualities of water—its vastness, undercurrents, and shifting fluid states. Musically, Aegir utilizes a vocabulary of extended techniques and dense harmonic layers to generate a visceral, acoustic architecture. The music balances fragile, suspended stillness with volatile bursts of energy, mimicking the unpredictable currents of a wild sea. The instruments act as interdependent partners, weaving complex lines that dissolve into one another, leaving the audience suspended in a shifting, evocative landscape of pure sound.
