2000 Miles, originally for solo cello and adapted by the composer for piano, was written for the 2004 documentary film 2000 Miles to Maine: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail. The film, by director Douglas Morse, follows a diverse array of hikers attempting the trek from Georgia to Maine.
