Edward Smaldone's Murmurations for Clarinet and Wind Orchestra, world premiere, Sept. 23rd
Murmurations for clarinet and wind orchestra by Edward Smaldone will receive its world premiere performance by the Idaho Civic Symphony, Nell Flanders, conductor, and featuring clarinet soloist Shandra Hellman. "Meet Me in New York" event also features music by Leonard Bernstein and Stravinsky. At Jensen Concert Hall in Pocatello, Idaho.

Celebration of Modernism - New York Composers Circle

A Celebration of Contemporary Music Masters featuring the music of Raoul Pleskow, John Eaton, as well as David Mecionis, Tamara Cashour, and Roger Blanc, with performances by Christopher Oldfather, Esther Lamneck, and Rolf Schulte.
New York Composers Circle will present a celebration of contemporary music with Masters
of Modernism concert on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 PM at Church of the Transfiguration (Little Church
Around the Corner), 1 East 29th Street in Manhattan.
The program will feature violinist Rolf Schulte, who will perform solo works by 20th -century masters Stefan
Wolpe (Second Piece for Violin Alone) and Donald Martino (Fantasy-Variations) and will be joined by pianist
Christopher Oldfather for Wolpe-disciple Raoul Pleskows Contrasts for Violin and Piano. John Eaton's Tocotnwill be performed mezzo-soprano Jessica Boweres and guitarist Oren Fader. Performers will also include Lois Martin, viola, Linda Wetherill, flute and Esther Lamneck, clarinet.
Tickets for the May 18 concert are $20, available at this link, or at the door. Seniors are $15 and students are free.

This performance is presented in honor of Peggy Shivers. With music by H. Leslie Adams, including the orchestral arrangements of Nightsongs and Dunbar Songs, as well as music by George Walker, Undine Smith Moore, Jessie Montgomery, and much more.
Lament for the City by David Froom, world premiere with the Folger Consort, March 4
In this concert, the Folger Consort traces the origins of Viennas history as an epicenter of musical activity with music from the earliest Viennese School the assembly of composers at the court of Emperor Maximilian I around the year 1500. The program celebrates one of Maximilian's brightest stars, the composer Ludwig Senfl. Although separated by centuries, connections between Senfl and later Viennese composers abound, as in the continuation of thetenorlied songwriting tradition by Franz Schubert, shared text settings by Johannes Brahms, and in the sparkling contrapuntal music of Anton Webern, who of all the later composers examined his Viennese musical heritage back to the 1500s most closely. These later Viennese works are performed in new arrangements for the Consorts early instruments by composer David Froom, and the concert will also include the world premiere of Frooms setting of "Lament for the City" with text by the poet Sue Standing.With Tenor voice (Mark Bleeke), Recorder (Alto/Tenor), Tenor Lute, 2 Bass Viols, And Dulcian.
Additional performances will be held Saturday March 5th, and Sunday, March 6th.
Who Was Vally Weigl? A film and concert in Vienna, Feb. 2
Vally Weigl was a pianist, composer and music therapist.She is the sister of Kthe Leichter, a Viennese women's rights activist.Vally Weigl was also the wife of Karl Weigl, an Austrian composer.After Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany, she had to flee Vienna with her family and built a new life for herself in New York.With this program, Ensemble Ultreia brings the music of Vally Weigl back to Vienna and presents it in sound and vision.

DC-based music theatre company INSERIES.org strives to champion new music and marginalized voices. Inseries Artist Fellow, soprano Melissa Wimbish will be presented in recital February 27th at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington DC.
Music by Florence Price, Gilda Lyons, Tom Cipullo, andH. Leslie Adams, will be woven into a recital program that examines the life and legacy of Josephine Baker.

Cassatt Quartet plays music of Dorothy Rudd Moore, Nov. 5
The Cassatt Quartet - Muneko Otani and Jennifer Leshnower, violins; Rosemary Nelis, viola; and Gwen Krosnick, cello - will play, among other works, MODES for string quartet by Dorothy Rudd Moore on Saturday 11/5 in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Additional performances are planned for New York City and other touring dates/locations.
Hailed for its mighty rapport and relentless commitment, the Cassatt String Quartet has performed to critical acclaim across the world since its founding in 1985, with appearances at Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Tanglewood Music Center, the Kennedy Center, Thtre des Champs-lyses, Centro National de las Artes, Maeda Hall, and Beijings Central Conservatory. The groups discography includes over forty recordings, spanning the Koch, Naxos, New World, Point, CRI, Tzadik, and Albany labels including three discs that have been named by Alex Ross to his 10 Best Classical Recordings feature in The New Yorker Magazine.
The Cassatt Quartets upcoming projects include major performances and recordings of works by Daniel S. Godfrey, Tania Len, and Shirish Korde; their annual residencies at the Seal Bay Festival of American Chamber Music and Cassatt in the Basin!; hometown concerts in the New York area; and appearances at Music Mountain, Treetops Chamber Music Society, Maverick Concerts, and Jordan Hall.
The CSQ is named for the great Impressionist painter Mary Cassatt.
Barbara Jazwinski, world premiere of "She is a Dancer" May 3rd
She is a dancer for SATB choir and piano will be presented by Tulane University at Dixon Hall on May 3rd. It is part of a comprehensive program of 19th C. songs with the Tulane-Newcomb choir, focused on women's history and suffrage. In July, Barbara's work Fantasy on Jazz will be recorded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow, with Samuel Marques as soloist.
Kids 4 Harmony and CIAO present works for young players including Nobilis humilis by Gary Philo, April 4
A joint concert presentation from Kids 4 Harmony and Community Intergenerational Action Orchestra (CIAO) will include music by Vivaldi, Corelli, and an arrangement for string orchestra of Nobilis humilis magnus martir, a hymn to St. Magnus, Earl of Orkney, written for CIAO by Gary Philo, among othe works.St. John's Epsicopal Church, Williamstown, MA.
The CIAO project includes classical repertoire from the 16th-19th centuries, ethnic music, and popular "sing-along" songs. In addition, the group performs new music written expressly for them that use avant-garde musical languages.
ACA Composers Premiere Works with New York Composers Circle
New York Composers Circle will premiere two pieces by David Mecionis April 21st and May 18th. Joining him on the latter will be an additional ACA premiere by Raoul Pleskow, and a performance of John Eaton's music. Tickets are available for the April concert here, and tickets for the May concert can be found on NYCC's website when available.

Premiere of David Liptak's Ballet "Pierrot in America", Sunday March 6th
This Sunday, David Liptak premieres his Ballet "Pierrot in America" as part of"Tripping the Light Fantastic'' with Cordancia Chamber Orchestra and BIODANCE dance company, Rachel Lauber conducting. "Pierrot in America" is an orchestral migrant's tale that follows the mythical character, Pierrot, on his migration adventure from Europe to America in the early 20th century.

The concert is part of the year-long Eastman Centennial Celebration, and admission is free.
