DEAR COMPANION
Voice and Piano
An Appalachian folk song, the traditional text to Dear Companion can be found in the book English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians by Cecil Sharp, first published in 1917. Sharp collected this song from Mrs. Rose Hensley in Carmen, NC in 1916. The first two stanzas are close to the ones sung by Mrs. Hensley, and the third stanza is a text of Rhodes’ own creation.
