Composer's Note:
Snap for orchestra began life as the third movement of a piano work of mine (Show of Hands). At the time of that piece's recording some years back, my friend, the composer, etc., Douglas Knehans, mentioned that he could imagine Snap as an orchestral work while miming the first gesture played by the strings. It took quite some time, but I finally got around to taking the spark of that memory and realizing it in the current work. The intensity and excitement of the music will likely belie its brevity. At 160 beats per minute, the orchestra is instructed to play fast, precise and tight. Hold on. Have fun.
