Mezzo-Soprano and Cello
Composer's Note:
The Wreckage of the Moon sets text by James Wright, setting the poem of the same name. It's a poem that I have admired from the time I discovered it in the 1970's. I first used it in a now discarded song for soprano and piano, and it also found its way in my Ancient Songs, for baritone and chamber ensemble, as the final song of the set. The Wreckage of the Moon was set for students at Eastman, and it proved to be an excellent study for the larger work that followed.
