Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc

Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc

BsCl

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc ("after this, therefore because of this") as a concept viewed with suspicion by philosophers and scientists, but is often used by musicians especially solo improvisers as a fair description of what they are doing when they improvise. This piece was written in 1989 in celebration of Beth Wiemann and her new bass clarinet. The material tends to refer to the immediate rather than the remote past. The attentive listener will easily recognize the overall structure.
