Drunk Taken Pointed
Mezzo-Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Clarinet (Doubling Bass Clarinet and Piccolo Clarinet), Violin, Viola, and Cello
Composer's Note:
"Drunk Taken Pointed" is built upon a text generated via chance operations by the composer and is dedicated to Jackson Mac Low. The text process resulted in unique word juxtapositions and phrases free of human communication intent. Nevertheless, they offered the composer an array of provocative imagery, emotional triggers, and - by liberating the words from traditional grammatical constructs - revealing a syllable-by-syllable potpourri of sonic anomalies.
This musical setting "pretends" to translate the words and word-sequences, providing varying agendas of meaning and emotional implication, served up with a healthy dose of parody and irreverence. (In doing so, might it become "poetry"?)
Additional instruments needed: high, medium, and low maracas (played by the singers) and a small bell (played by the cellist).
Movements: I. such a saint, II. gradually pulp, III. illimitable end, IV. that down her all, V. reading Sigmund, VI. were he me, VII. yang child
