Composer's Note:
This is the first choral work in an ongoing project I call my "Little Pieces""”pieces which are small in scope, that I write in a fairly short amount of time (usually a day or two), relying on my instinct and "toolbox" of techniques to guide me. The other pieces in this series have been solo piano music and art songs.
I write these pieces when I'm feeling stuck or if I'm between large projects. They're a good way for me to score a quick "win," which usually recharges my creative batteries.
I came across this William Carlos Williams poem in late 2022 and immediately fell in love with it. Setting it for SATB chorus was both a joy and a unique challenge.
