Robert CarlInnova composer Robert Carl has released a new CD critics have called "Music like a force of nature" With Donald Berman, John McDonald, Moritz Eggert, and Erberk Eryilmaz, the new CD features piano music Shake the Tree for piano 4-hands, Braided Bagatelles, and Piano Sonata No. 2 "The Big Room."
"My piano music is a continuing diary of my growth as a composer. And thats ironic, since Im a very modest pianist. But starting with my first sonata, Spiral Dances (1984), its been the medium where I can test out ideas big and small, some very spacious and ambitious, others occasional, experimental, and lighter-hearted. The culmination of this approach is Shake the Tree, perhaps the most virtuosic and architecturally ambitious work Ive ever written. Two of its major predecessors are Braided Bagatelles, a bravura evocation of variation form, mixed with elements that verge on Dada, and my Piano Sonata No.2, The Big Room, whose three movements represent three very different approaches of how to evoke space musically, and whose last movement became the genesis of a breakthrough eponymous orchestral work." --Robert Carl
