After completing his studies in Munich and his master's studies with Prof. Thomas Quastoff in Berlin, the Bass-Baritone Thomas Stimmel was involved in the Berlin Staatsoper and the Munich Prinzregentheater. The son of a German mother and an African-American father began the search for "classical composers" with African roots, which are hardly known in the German-speaking world.
The result is this concert and a future recording release of these pieces, including a contemporary song cycle and, as a central work, the "Stabat Mater" for string quartet and voice by Julia Perry, created in the 1950s in the face of racial unrest in South Carolina. All these works bear witness to a great creativity, vitality and incredible beauty.
The opera singer Thomas Stimmel was raised in Icking (Munich). He performs at home and abroad as a soloist, in a duo or in ensembles. In addition, he lectures at the College of Music and Theater in Munich. Philipp Vogler is a pianist, composer, conductor and composer. He founded the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra and is Professor for vocal chamber music and choral music at the University of Music and Theater, in Munich.
