The Sor Juana Songs, performed by two remarkable
artists, soprano Sharon Harms and pianist Christopher Oldfather on March 6th at
8:00 at St. Peters Church on 54th, mid-block east of Lexington Ave
The composer John Eaton calls his Sor Juana Songs his "most challenging
and moving song cycle for soprano and piano." It will
be performed by the extraordinary soprano Sharon Harms and the incredible pianist
Christopher Oldfather on NEW DATE: Thursday, March 6th in Saint Peter's Church at the
Citicorp Center on 54th St. east of Lexington Ave. at 8PM. There is a suggested donation of $20; students are admitted free. The concert is sponsored by New York Composers Circle.
The poetry in Eaton's cycle is from Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz, a nun and major Baroque literary figure of Mexico who was a 17th-century trailblazer for women's rights.
Other works on the program include Debra Kaye's While We Were Sleeping, and Peri Mauer's At Home with Allen Ginsberg.
