Flute professor Janet Arms and friends in a recital of new works by
Hartt faculty composers Carl, Gryc, Macbride, Smith, Steen, and Turrin.
The pieces run from solo flute to pairings with piano, percussion,
soprano, and flute II.

Since 1988, Janet Arms has been a member of the New York City Opera
orchestra, where she plays assistant principal flute and piccolo. She
has also performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, the
Metropolitan Opera, and the New York City Ballet; as guest principal
flutist with the St. Louis Symphony in the US and throughout Europe;
played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston, at Tanglewood, and
on tour; and has made solo appearances in the States and abroad with the
New York Chamber Soloists. She has a decade long association with the
Bard Festival Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard, and
is a former member of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. Ms. Arms now
makes her home in NY, where she is also active in commercial recording.
Robert Carl (b.1954) studied composition with Jonathan Kramer, George
Rochberg, Ralph Shapey, and Iannis Xenakis. His music is performed
throughout the US and Europe, and is published by American Composers'
Alliance, Boosey & Hawkes, Roncorp, and Apoll-Edition. His grants,
prizes and residencies have come from such sources as the National
Endowment for the Arts, Tanglewood, Connecticut Commission on the Arts,
Camargo Foundation, MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Ucross, Millay Colony,
Bogliasco Foundation, Djerassi Foundation, the Aaron Copland House, and
the Rockefeller Foundation.
