Galveston Symphony Celebrates Juneteenth
The Galveston Symphony Orchestra and the Galveston Heritage Chorale celebrate Juneteenth with a special concert featuring music exclusively by composers of African descent on Sunday, June 18, at 4:00 pm. The concert will take place in Galveston, the birthplace of Juneteenth, at the historic Grand 1894 Opera House.
Works to be performed include music of J. Weldon Johnson and Rosamond Johnson, Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Izola Collins, Rollo Dilworth, Samuel Coleridge Taylor; and songs for voice and piano by Frederick Tillis, as well as Dr. Tillis's much loved Spiritual Fantasy No. 12 Wade in the Water for string quartet.
