Concert: Weaving Threads: Virginia Woolf & String Quartets
Kreutzer Quartet at the University of Cambridge, England (Robinson College Chapel in Cambridge) on November 3rd, will present the premiere String Quartet No. 3: Portrait (For Deedee) by Elliott Schwartz.
The renowned Kreutzer Quartet, the concert explores Woolfs interest in string quartets and features new work inspired by the writing of Virginia Woolf. The concert includes work by Beethoven, by the South-African British composer Priaulx Rainier, and Mozarts arrangement of a Bach fugue for string quartet. In addition to the Schwartz, another world premiere will feature Jeremy Thurlows Memory is the seamstress. More info about this concert can be found here.
Collaborations with Kreutzer Quartet and Elliott Schwartz include many concerts and recordings. "The members of the Kreutzer Quartet handle (the challenges of the Schwartz) with breathtaking sensitivity. In the Kreutzer's hands the Bellagio Variations receive a wonderfully nuanced performance, by turns (and sometimes all at once) taut, luxurious, witty and ferocious, entirely befitting the wilfully disorienting, dream-like nature of the music." --Brunswick Times
