Elliott SchwartzHappy Birthday wishes to Elliott Schwartz, who turns 76 this week. Elliott will be traveling to England next week for a February-March fellowship at Robinson College,
at the University of Cambridge -- his fifth Cambridge visiting residency. He will work with students there on a concert of chamber music, including the premiere of
his own recently-completed "Anagrams" for Bb trumpet and percussionist.
His UK stay will also include
lecturing at Kings College London and at the Royal Academy of Music, as well as hearing a performance of his "Jefferson Cadenza" for solo violin.
The work was written for Peter Sheppard Skaerved, and was premiered by him in
September 2011 at the National Portrait Gallery (London). The trip will also include recording
sessions with the Kreutzer Quartet in preparation for a new CD on the (Swiss) Guild
label. One of the pieces for the new disk will be a revised version of his
2002 "Water Music" for strings and electronic sounds. In April, his music is being performed on the Portland (Maine)
Conservatory/Unitarian Church series, and the composer will travel to New York for
the premiere of a new piano piece (to be performed by Hui Wu) at the Juilliard
School.
