of Winston-Salem on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30 PM at Brendle Recital Hall on the
campus of Wake Forest University, 1834 Wake Forest Road in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina.
Blown Away was written for wind ensemble in 2005. Hear

Other works on the program are by composers from the Winston-Salem area.
Conducted by Jeff Whitsett, the concert will also feature
Guest Conductor Dr. Kevin Bowen and and a performance by the Winston-Salem
Youth Chorus, directed by Barbara Beattie.

The Piedmont Wind Symphony (PWS) is a wind ensemble
serving the Piedmont Triad area. The PWS was founded under the direction of
Robert Simon in 1990 with seed money from the Arts Council of
Winston-Salem. Its goal is to further adult music education and provide
performance opportunities for post college age musicians and to enhance, enrich
and expand the musical experience available to adults in the Triad area. The
PWS is made up of professional, amateur and student musicians from all areas of
the Piedmont. In residence at Wake Forest University, the PWS performs
frequently, has many performances broadcast on Public Radio, has performed
three times for the North Carolina Music Educators Convention and has released
six CDs.
Lawrence Dillon is Composer in Residence at the
University of North Carolina School of the Arts and has had recent commissions
and performances by the Emerson String Quartet, the Mansfield (OH) Symphony,
the Boise Philharmonic, the Salt Lake City Symphony, the Daedalus String
Quartet, the University of Utah Philharmonia and the Idyllwild (CA) Symphony
Orchestra. He has won awards from ASCAP, the Juilliard School, the Ravinia
Festival, the International Horn Society, the American Music Center, CRS and
many other organizations. His music is published by American Composers
