Paul SchoenfieldPaul Schoenfield (b. 1947) is known for combining popular, folk, and classical music forms. His music is widely-performed and has been called exuberant, with depth and sly twists.(Photo: Milken Archive recording session)
Stas FridmanStanislav Fridman is third-year student at Mannes, and has studied composition with Lowell Liebermann and Eric Ewazen, and piano with Irina Morozova and others.
Ross BauerRoss Bauer's Heartstrings (2012) for flute and
string trio, was written for the Tel Aviv based Meitar Ensemble and is
dedicated to them. It was premiered by Meitar, with flutist Roy Amotz, and recorded for Albany Records.
Lazar Weiner(1897-1982)LazarWeiner is most widely remembered today as the supreme exemplar and
advocate of the Yiddish art song genre. Through his opera of more than
two hundred songs, he elevated that medium to unprecedented artistic
sophistication. (from Neil Levin biography, Milken Archive). Many of his songs are available by CD and download through the Milken Archive of Jewish Music. (Photo Milken Archive)
A.W. Binder(1895-1966)From 1922 until 1966, Abraham Wolf Binder served as music director of the Stephen
Wise Free Synagogue in NYC, where he introduced a number of important
changes, including a return to traditional biblical cantillation. His compositions often used cantillation motifs as a base.(Photo Milken Archive)
