2011 BEAMS Electronic Music Marathon

The Brandeis
Electro-Acoustic Music Studio (BEAMS) will present a 12-hour marathon concert
of electronic and mixed media works on April 30, 2011. The day-long concert
will showcase the depth and breadth of music made with electronic and computer
sounds and will feature an international roster of musicians and composers.
Electronic music and mixed/multi-media works are too often compromised by the
quality of the technology through which they are experienced. But the 2011
BEAMS Electronic Music Marathon will feature a state of the art sound system
installed in the intimate and acoustically excellent Slosberg Recital Hall that
will allow audiences to experience the music uncompromised - the way that the
composers intended for it to be heard.

Curated by Brandeis University Professor and Director of BEAMS, Eric Chasalow,
the wide-ranging program showcases works by younger composers, prominent local
figures and leaders in the field, including works by Luigi Nono, Mario
Davidovsky, Steve Reich, Jonathan Harvey, Tristan Murail, Philippe Manoury,
Kaija Saariaho, Michel van der Aa, Joshua Fineberg, Eric Chasalow, Hans
Tutschku, Thomas Kessler, James Dashow, Jacob ter Veldhuis, Steven Takasugi,
John Mallia, Butch Rovan, Dennis Miller, among others. These exciting works
will be performed by top-notch players dedicated to contemporary music,
including Joshua Gordon, Mari Kimura, Michael Lowenstern, Shanna Gutierrez,
Krista Reisner, The Phoenix Ensemble, Geoffrey Burleson, Philipp Studlin,
Talea Ensemble, Sound Icon and many others.
