


Mark Zuckermanwill discuss his involvement with Yiddishchoral arrangements and the challenges he has experienced when communicating, through music, facets of Jewish spirit, culture and experience. All of the singers will sing hisarrangements at the end of the concert. Hisarrangements have been performed on four continents, has been called theforemost choral arranger of Yiddish song alive today. A composer for vocalists,chamber groups and orchestras, he earned his Ph.D. in composition fromPrinceton University, where he served on the music faculty and taught coursesranging from jazz to computer music.
Jody Rockmaker is the recipient of numerous awards including a Barlow Endowment Commission, Fulbright Grant, two BMI Awards for Young Composers, an ASCAP Grant, the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal from New England Conservatory, and a National Orchestral Association Orchestral Reading Fellowship. He has held residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program and Villa Montalvo, and has been a Composition Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. He taught at Stanford University and is currently an Associate Professor at Arizona State University School of Music.
