Pablo Casals, cellist, conductor, and composer, was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President John F. Kennedy and the United Nations Peace Prize by Secretary General U Thant. Casals, the first internationally renowned cellist, revolutionized cello playing. The Opera highlights Pau’s life from childhood until his passing in 1973 at age 97.
