After graduating cum laude from Oberlin (OH) in 1992 with degrees in modern cello performance and historical performance practice on viola da gamba, she moved to The Netherlands, graduating from The Royal Conservatory in The Hague with a masters in Baroque Cello in 1994. She then immersed herself in the musical and cultural possibilities of Northern Europe.

Sarah is also known for her collaborative work with other art forms, including with mime ensemble Walking Faces, modern dance group Krisztina de Châtel, and Theater De Plaats in Arnhem. In 2016 she founded The Sarah Walder Music Project. Sarah’s music project is designed to make music and music education fun and accessible to all and combines street performances, concerts of her own music with loop station as well commissioned pieces, workshops and lessons. In 2017 she released a solo CD of her compositions entitled Cello Trip. Her second solo CD will be released in 2021.  Sarah currently divides her time between Arizona and The Netherlands.
