Description

Composer's Note:

This micro-opera was composed at the invitation of the Gunnar Berg Ensemble (Salzburg). Its protagonist is an idealist, desiring to live "the poetic life"- in a world that challenges her with a labyrinth of earthly limitations and disappointments.

Comments

The work involves (1) 1/4-tone microtones, particularly for the guitarist; (2) vocalization for the flutist, and (3) percussive effects for the guitarist and cellist. Staging, in intimate performing environments, is strongly encouraged and could be devised collaboratively by the four performers. However, if preferred, an outside stage director could be invited.

Vocal range: A3 to Bb5.
