This work was commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Jukka-Pekka
Saraste, Music Director, for bass soloist Joel Quarrington. The first performance took
place on Nov. 8, l997 at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

The version for small orchestra was commissioned by Joel Quarrington and
first performed by Joel with Symphony Nova Scotia, Bernhard Gueller, cond.,
at Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Feb. 7, 2008
