Pianist Thomas Otten will be playing a fundraising recital for the National Association of Negro Musicians on Sunday, Oct. 19th at Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland.  The program includes the Piano Etudes, Part II, of African American composer H. Leslie Adams. Otten's CD of these pieces was recently released on Albany Records.  Otten's 2012 performance ( 3 of the Etudes) can be seen at this youtube link.

This is Otten's first performance in Maryland since graduating from UM in 1983!  A new edition of 9 of the piano etudes has been published this year by the American Composers Alliance.

Founded in 1919, The National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) is the country’s oldest organization dedicated to the preservation, encouragement, and advocacy of all genres of the music of African Americans. Since its inception, NANM has provided encouragement and support to thousands of African American musicians, many of whom have become widely respected figures in music and have contributed significantly to American culture and music history. In July 2015, NANM will celebrate its 96th National Convention in the Washington, DC area.
