Scott Miller - new works for flutes and electronics, with rarescale, UK premiere Sept. 6th

Scott L. Miller’s Anterior/Interior and The Frost Performs its Secret Ministry will be performed by rarescale at The Forge, Camden, UK on Sept 6. On September 7, Scott Miller and flutist/improviser Carla Rees will premier Miller’s ISLANDs at the Kyma International Sound Symposium (KISS) at DeMontfort University, Leicester, UK.

In addition, Scott Miller (Kyma) and Carla Rees (Kingma System Flutes) will demonstrate contemporary and traditional flutes, electronic improvisation systems, and the potential for collaboration and innovation with guest artists Julián Elvira and Katsuya Nonaka at IKLECTIK in London, UK.

rarescale is a flexible-instrumentation contemporary chamber music ensemble, formed by alto and bass flute specialist Carla Rees in 2003. Using between 1 and 12 players, the ensemble has a particular commitment to the work of emerging composers and the creation of chamber music repertoire for alto and bass flutes. The group performs frequently in the UK and abroad and collaborates with a number of composers internationally.

Scott Miller is a composer of electroacoustic, orchestral, chamber, choral and multimedia works described as ‘high adventure avant garde music of the best sort’ (Classical-Modern Music Review) and ‘inspir[ing] real hope & optimism for the future of electroacoustic music.’ (5against4.com). Known for his interactive electroacoustic chamber music and ecosystemic performance pieces, Miller has twice been named a McKnight Composer Fellow, he is a Fulbright Scholar, and his work has been recognized by numerous international arts organizations. Recordings are available on New Focus Recordings, Panoramic, Innova, Eroica, CRS, rarescale and SEAMUS, and his music is published by ACA (American Composers Alliance), Tetractys, and Jeanné.
