North/South Consonance, Inc. continues its 33rd
consecutive season of free-admission concerts on Sunday afternoon February 10th,
when internationally

Lifchitz present a recital featuring chamber music by composers from Argentina,
Brazil, México and the United States.
The recital at 2:30 PM will take place at
the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing
Arts (40 Lincoln Center Plaza -- Amsterdam Ave at 65th St) in Manhattan.
Admission is free (no tickets necessary).
Special guest for the occasion will be composer Elizabeth Bell who this
season will be celebrating her 85th birthday. Her charming and virtuosic
Kaleidoscope for flute and piano will be heard for the very first time. A
founder of New York Women Composers, Inc., Elizabeth Bell has described by the
press as“a fine composer who writes in a freely atonal style that nevertheless
has, in its rhetoric and general outlines, a strong relationship to more
conventional music”
Lisa Hansen has dazzled audiences and critics alike with the
expressive beauty of her and tone and the brilliant virtuosity of her
technique. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Ms. Hansen has fashioned a
career that is uniquely American, encompassing diverse ends of the musical
spectrum in the breadth of her repertoire and performance experience.
“Irresistibly lyrical” is how the New York Times described her playing. México
City newspapers talked about her “beautiful ample tone, impeccable technique
and playing of radiant beauty.” And the San Francisco Bay Guardian
commented on how “flute virtuoso Lisa Hansen was technically awesome and
emotionally moving.”
The American Record Guide described Max Lifchitz as”a consummate musician ....one of America’s finest exponents of contemporary piano
music.” The NY Times praised him for his "clean, measured and sensitive
performances.” Active also as composer and conductor, Mr. Lifchitz has
performed throughout Europe, Latin America and the US.
The program will also feature highly lyrical and
accessible works by Argentinean Alberto Ginastera; Brazilians Ernesto Nazareth
and Heitor Villa-Lobos; and Mexican Manuel M. Ponce. To round-off the program
Ms. Hansen will perform a work especially written for her by Max Lifchitz, the
Mosaico Latinoamericano. Reviewing the first performance of this work, the
critic of Zürich's Badener Tagblatt termed the premiere a "definite
success” adding "... Latin American rhythms and melodies shimmered like a
tender light without at all becoming rebellious..."
