Friday, April 27, 8 PM, Louis Karchin's duo Quest for flute and harp will receive its NY premiere on a concert of the Washington Square Contemporary Music Society.  The program will feature ICE performers Alice Teyssier, Ashley Jackson, Chris Gross, and Dan Lippel along with many others and will include a world premiere written for violist Lois Martin by Charles Wuorinen, performed in honor of the composer's 80th birthday, as well as new works by Jan Krzywicki, Friedrich Kern, Brian Fennelly and Anna Thorvaldsdottir. Tenri Cultural Institute, 43a W. 13th St. (near 6th Ave.) NYC
On Sunday, May 20, at 7:30 PM at Miller Theatre, Columbia University, Karchin will have the honor of conducting the Orchestra of the League of Composers in a program featuring works by Samuel Adler (in honor of the composer's 90th birthday), John Harbison, Hayes Biggs, and Du Yun.
June 4-10, Louis Karchin joins composers Roger Reynolds, John Harbison, Liza Lim, David Felder, and Hans Thomalia as a guest composer at David Felder's ambitious June-in-Buffalo Festival.  Several recent works (and those of each of the guests) will be performed during a busy week of concerts.
The release of the premiere recording of Karchin's opera, Jane Eyre, is forthcoming on Naxos.  In addition, another album of smaller chamber works is planned for release, recorded over several years by three superb performers, Miranda Cuckson, Steven Beck, and Jacqueline Leclair.
