Christopher Shultis upcoming concerts, and premiere of solo percussion piece, "Glock"

Chris ShultisNews from Christopher Shultis:  Premiere of GLOCK, by percussionist Aaron Butler, for whom it was composed, will be on February 12 at Hart Recital Hall, Michigan State University as part of a residency and lecture by the composer, "Radical Simplicity" at 2:30 PM and a concert of Shultis works including Glock, at 7:00 PM.

An all-Shultis concert will also take place at John Jay College on Saturday March 19 at 8:00 PM at the John Jay College Art Gallery, and will include music from his new CD: "An Illusion of Desire: Experimental Music by Christopher Shultis."  The concert will include the world premiere of "4-7-3," (with video by Hee Sook Kim) for two percussion and electronics; "metaphysics" for voice and electronics, "motion/less" for solo percussion; "Gesturing Hands" for solo theremin; and "Friends" for spoken word, crotales and piano. Performers will be Doug Nottingham, Brett Reed, and the composer.  CDs will also be available (pre-released copies) for purchase at the show. 

A new solo piece ("Paradise Between") written for clarinetist Keith Lemmons will be premiered at the opening  on Friday March 11 of the solo artist show for Hee Sook Kim at Causey Gallery in NYC.

 

Shultis is also a featured composer at the 2016 John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium at the University of New Mexico, March 28-31, where he will present his lecture, "Radical Simplicity," and performances of GLOCK, and the world premiere of "World's End Preludes" for solo piano, will be performed by Emanuele Arciuli who is recording it for his upcoming CD on Innova recordings.

 

And beginning in mid-April, Christopher Shultis will be teaching at the Goethe University Frankfurt and Heidelberg University.
