EVOLUTIONS: SHIFTING SONIC LANDSCAPES

THE DIMENNA CENTER, Cary Hall,
450 W 37th St, New York, NY 10018     (212) 594-6100

Ecce’s season opener at the DiMenna Center on Thursday November 20th explores the shifting landscapes of the contemporary American scene. Jason Eckardt’s politically charged Rendition tackles the issue of military use of torture, while Reiko Fueting’s light asleep, is a philosophical treatise on memory, disembodiment and the artists’ existential crisis, inspired by the Jean Paul Richter quote, “Our memories are the only paradise from which we can never be expelled”. John Aylward’s Ephemera transforms traditional spectral landscapes into a virtuosic, rhythmically charged tour de force for clarinet and cello. The crown jewel of the evening will be a premiere by the venerable Martin Boykan, commissioned by Ecce. Mr. Boykan’s, a recent inductee to the American Academy of Arts and Letters, has touched generations of composers with his music, and he continues to produce some of the most masterful music of any American composer today.
