Cantilena del Cielo originated as a single movement from “Solo Suite”—a multi-movement work for various solo instruments in concerto form.  In English the title means “Little Song of Heaven.”  The Italian version contains a play on words, where “cielo” (“heaven”) closely resembles the solo instrument,  “cello.”  This “little song,”  then, unabashedly evokes notions of sweetness, poignancy, and, yes—even heavenly imaginings. Of course celestial concepts will vary greatly from person to person.  But ”Cantilena” will hopefully evoke something of the transcendent, the eternal in anyone who listens closely enough. …
