Description
Composer's Note:
In homage to the great William Lawes (1602-45) and his marvelous compositions for consorts of viols, this piece borrows one of his titles and strives to emulate his contrapuntal flights of fancy. Like other English composers of the time, Lawes delighted in salting his music with dissonant cross-relations. I’ve pushed that even further, while retaining elements of seventeenth-century harmony, rhythm, and voice-leading.
