Description

Composer's Note:

Topsy-Turvy, was commissioned by Kang-ku Lee and his Akademie Percussion Ensemble, APE. Conceptually, as an example, one person may be playing in 4/4 with another playing in the grouping of 34/16 time (sub-grouped into 16/16 and 18/16 time): 3,3,4,3,3; 3,3,4,3,3,2. This requires significant concentration and a refined feeling for the inner-pulse. A different type of focused energy emerges, which is felt by both the performers. Perhaps Charles Ives dreamed of such a thing?
