Description

Composer's Note:

Jazz Flute Sonata was written by the composer for this junior level exam in composition as an undergraduate at San Diego State University. Finished in 1981, it was heavily influenced by the "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano" by Claude Bolling as performed by Jean-Pierre Rampal. The movements are dedicated to teachers and a friend; mvt. 1 to David Ward-Steinman, mvt. 2 to Lynette Van Horn, and mvt. 3 to Frederick Baker with whom Sain studied flute for a decade.
