Detail

Description

String Quartet No. 2 was named winner of the League-ISCM's National Composers Competition and premiered at Carnegie Recital Hall on May 2, 1985.

The quartet is in four movements played without pause.
The following was provided by the composer:

"To me, String Quartet No. 2 evokes the magic of the mountains, the woods and the lakes on the spectacular promontory at Bellagio, on Lake Como, where I composed most of the work when I was a resident at the Rockefeller Foundation's Villa Serbelloni. I have tried to express the feeling of that time and place."
