Alison Nowak

Biography

Alison Nowak (b. 1948, Syracuse), studied at Bennington College (B.A.), Columbia University (M.A. and D.M.A.). She has received three Meet the Composer grants, and the Rapoport Prize at Columbia U.

Her music has been performed by Parnassus, New Music Consort, and the American Composer's Forum, among many others. She has received commissions from the Sage City Symphony, Bennington College, the Bennington Chamber Music Conference, and many solo performers. She was composer-in-residence for two summers at the Bennington Chamber Music Conference. She was on the faculties of the 92nd Street Y and the New School for Social Research, and also at Union College in Schenectady.

She is an active violinist, and performed for many years with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra. She lives in New York City.
