John Gibson's Out of Hand performed by NC Symphony Special Events, Oct. 29th

NC Symphony presents "Mission Red" a special event concert featuring music for brass, keyboard, and electronics. Artists performing music of John Gibson, Eric Ewazen, James Mobberley, and Michael Davis, include Jonathan Randazzo, trombone; Alex Fioto, trumpet; Olga Kleiankina, keyboard. Tickets are $13 and available online or at the door of Kings, in Raleigh.

 

In October of 2010, Jonathan Randazzo was appointed Assistant Principal Trombone of the North Carolina Symphony while in pursuit of his Bachelor of Music Degree in performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. Graduating in May of 2011, Jonathan studied with Norman Bolter, former Second Trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has also studied with Joseph Alessi of the New York Philharmonic, James Markey of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Willard Sprague, a local pedagogue on Long Island. While in high school, Jonathan attended the Juilliard School pre-college division program.
 
 
 
 
 

 

Composer John Gibson’s (pictured, at left) acoustic and electroacoustic music has been presented in the US, Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia. His instrumental compositions have been performed by many groups, including the London Sinfonietta, the Da Capo Chamber Players, the Seattle Symphony, the Music Today Ensemble, Speculum Musicae, Ekko!, and at the Tanglewood, Marlboro and June in Buffalo festivals. Presentations of his electroacoustic music include concerts at the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, the Bourges Synthèse Festival, the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Music, the International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of Sao Paulo, Keio University in Japan, the Third Practice Festival, the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival, and several ICMC and SEAMUS conferences. Among his grants and awards are a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, two ASCAP Foundation Grants, and the Paul Jacobs Memorial Fund Commission from the Tanglewood Music Center. Recordings of his music appear on the Centaur, Everglade, and SEAMUS labels. Gibson holds a Ph.D. in music from Princeton University, where he studied with Milton Babbitt, Paul Lansky, Steven Mackey, and others. He writes sound processing and synthesis software, and has taught composition and computer music at the University of Virginia, Duke University, and the University of Louisville. He is now Associate Professor of Composition at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Jonathan Randazzo is currently the Adjunct Trombone Professor at NC State University and is also in high demand as a private trombone instructor. In past years, Jonathan has been hired as guest artist-clinician at UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb and Appalachian State Universities.
