"Poke" by Lawrence Dillon Performed by Low and Lower on November 22 and 23 in Durham
Lawrence Dillon’s POKE, a bagatelle on anti-social media will be performed by Low and Lower, cellist Brooks Whitehouse and bassist Paul Sharpe, as part of their family concert on Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 PM and series concert on Sunday, November 23 at 3:00 PM, both at Kirby Horton Hall of Sarah P. Duke Gardens, 420 Anderson Street in Durham, North Carolina. These performances are part of the Mallarme Chamber Players Series.

The composer writes about the piece, “Poke, subtitled a bagatelle on anti-social media, is scored for cello and double bass, with a running (spoken) dialogue between the two musicians as they play, an argument taking place across various social media. Over the course of the piece, the two "text", "friend" and "like" one another with increasing fury, as their virtual exchanges complete obliterate their real lives in a comic turn on the dark underbelly of our online politesse.” Other composers on the programs include Jon Deak, J.S. Bach, Gilbert & Sullivan and Anton Arensky.
