Gregory Hall
Gregory Hall (b. 1959) holds a B.A. degree in Music from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Diploma degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia PA, where he studied with Ned Rorem.
Mr. Hall's Quartet for saxophones will be released on an upcoming (2008) Capstone Records release of new quartets for saxophone, also featuring Richard Brooks' Four-Play.
In 1991 he received a commission for the Hardanger Trio from the Maine Music Teachers National Association. Arkadia, commissioned by the Arcady Chamber Orchestra, Bar Harbor, ME, was premiered on August 6, 2001, and received several performances at various venues in Maine. Mr. Hall was selected as the Maine Composer of the Year in 1997 by the Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music, Brunswick, ME. He appeared as guest on the July 8, 2000 Kalvos and Damien New Music Bazaar radio show entitled "Basic Instinct".
He has composed nearly forty works for varied ensembles. He has participated in concerts by the American Composers Alliance, Society of Composers, Inc., Gamper Festival, SEAMUS, The Ought-One Festival, and in concerts of the Maine Composers Forum.
Mr. Hall's works have been reviewed several times in the New Music Connoisseur, and the Portland (Maine) Press-Herald.
