Call for 60-second sound works and 60-second silent video works for a project entitled: "What If? 60x60" New Media - New Music - New England in collaboration with Vox Novus/60x60, is accepting submissions until January 15, 2009 from composers/sound artists and video producers of any age working or living in the 6 New England states only: CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME. Saturday, January 17, 2009 The Canadian premiere of John Melby's Concerto for Violin, Piano and Computer, will be performed by Duo Diorama (Winston Choi, piano and Minghuan Xu, violin), for whom the work was composed, and first performed in Cambridge, MA in October, 2008. Choi will also perform a solo piano piece composed for him by Brian Current, Xu will play Bright Sheng’s The Stream Flows for solo violin and together they will pay tribute to Elliott Carter’s centenary with his Duo for violin and piano. March 25-28, 2009: Steven Gerber World Premiere San Francisco Symphony. Vladimir Ashkenazy will conduct the San Francisco Symphony in the world premiere of Steven Gerber's "Music in Dark Times," a 16-minute orchestral work written for and dedicated to Maestro Ashkenazy. A CD of three of Gerber's orchestral works -- Spirituals for string orchestra, Clarinet Concerto, and Serenade Concertante for 2 violins, strings, and harp -- was recently released on the Arabesque label.
Friday, April 3, 2009: The Miami Symphony Orchestra will be premiering a new work by Orlando Jacinto Garcia 8pm. Maestro Eduardo Marturet will conduct the work, which is being written in memory of composer, Earle Brown (1926-2002).
