Variations on a Hymn by William Billings (concert band)

Single movement consisting of Billings hymn "Chester" followed by nine variations. Billings' tune was used both as a hymntune and as a marching song during the Revolutionary War.  This piece uses that duality as its starting point the first 4 variations tear down the tune until just hints of it are left in Var.5.  Vars. 6-9 bring back the tune as a march.
